an interesting follow-up to this story. According to Maroutsos (sp?), after all the publicity from The Daily Show, Rogovy had to move to California to escape all the death threats. No guff. Fucking liberals. this time I'm serious.

File this quote under things best kept inside your head: Bennett, on his radio show, "Morning in America," was answering a caller's question when he took issue with the hypothesis put forth in a recent book that one reason crime is down is that abortion is up. "But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could, if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down," said Bennett, author of "The Book of Virtues." He went on to call that "an impossible, ridiculous and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky." ________________ Let the discussion begin. I'm sure lot's of people want to way in on this issue. Especially if you have hopes for a political career.

Remember Bob Walk? He was a pitcher for the Pirates. "Walk" isn't the name that you want if you're a pitcher. If you're a urologist, what's the name that you don't want? Take a look.

The Yankees sent a memo to all of their suite holders, advising them of their postseason tickets rights (should they make it there). The opening line of the letter? Take a read and judge for yourself (Keep in mind that the letter is dated September 19th): The New York Yankees are entering the post season for the eleventh consecutive year.
This is hardly something a team should be opening a letter with after blowing a 3-0 ALCS lead.

African American Vernacular English From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African-American_Vernacular_EnglishAfrican American Vernacular English (AAVE), known colloquially as Ebonics, also called Black English, Black Vernacular or Black English Vernacular, is a dialect and ethnolect of American English. Similar in certain pronunciation respects to common southern U.S. English, the dialect is spoken by many African Americans in the United States. AAVE shares many characteristics with various pidgin and Creole English dialects spoken by blacks worldwide. AAVE also has grammatical origins in, and pronunciation characteristics in common with, various West African languages. The term Ebonics, which is a portmanteau of ebony and phonics, has been suggested as an alternative name for this dialect. However, that name is not widely used in linguistic literature, although it enjoys considerable common use as a result of the controversy surrounding it. Robert L. Williams, a linguistics professor at Washington University, created the term Ebonics in 1973, then detailed it in his 1975 book, Ebonics: The True Language of Black Folks. The term was not widely known until the late 1990s, when it became a controversial topic in the United States, mainly over proposals to introduce it as part of the curriculum in a school district in Oakland, California. Famous celebrities who are known for speaking AAVE include Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, Eve Jihan Jeffers, Anthony Anderson, Jay-Z, Chris Tucker, Chris Rock, and Samuel L. Jackson. The last sentence makes it worth reading!

You ask, "why are we so bad at football at Washington?" I answer, "because we're a basketball school you crazy bastard!" Welcome Quincy Pondexter, a top ten west coast recruit from Fresno, CA, who today gave his oral commitment to Washington over UConn, Arizona, Memphis, Kentucky, among others. In fact, according to the Hartford Courant, it sounds like UConn thought they had him. He'll be playing for the Huskies all right, the Donald Watts Huskies, not the Rip Hamilton kind. I hate Rip Hamilton! He has been described as a Bobby Jones type, only way better! I'll simply take another Bobby Jones, anything more is gravy! Now if we can just land Spencer Hawes from Seattle Prep, we'll be a Final Four team capable of winning it all! Where art thou Martell?!? Oh, what could have been!!!!!

Sometimes I get carried away. We all do. Lately, Lance Armstrong has been a pretty devisive issue for members of this blog. In trying to rile each other up we've sunk to some lows to get back at each other. By going down that road we didn't really think about others who may not think cancer is very funny. Maybe I didn't think of it as much of a big deal because I have been extremely fortunate to not have someone I love suffer from this disease. But, I was wrong. I do have a person I love who is suffering with his brother who has brain cancer. I found this at http://www2.caringbridge.org/hi/jacobalmanza/Hello everyone, Currently, Jacob is not able to sit for very long to read emails due to the chronic pain now that the cancer has metastisized to his bone. We all continue to fight one day at a time to beat this nasty monster. Jacob is taking strong pain medication but does appreciate phone calls and "snail mail", especially humorous stuff. Please email our family at almanzaj002@hawaii.rr.com if you have any questions. Mahalo, Lani & Jack To Josh, I am sorry from the bottom of my heart and I feel sick to my stomach. My prayers are with your brother and your family. I am so sorry. Blair

Bill Simmons over at ESPN.com's Page 2 wrote a great article about how the WNBA is a piece of shit product, and goes through ripping it down: For the past nine years, the WNBA has been given countless chances, endless promotion, mainstream coverage and truckloads of capital. Has it helped? Absolutely not. I highly suggest you check it out. And while you're at it, you should check out a bunch of his other writing too.

Is this what rock bottom feels like? As I watch 105,000 people screaming their heads off at the Ohio State-Texas game, I'm wondering if we're going to see anything like that within the next five years. I hope we do, but from what happened today, we're a long ways off. I'll probably be able to prescribe myself antidepressants before things are going to be like that. The real troubling thing is that nothing that was the bugaboo last year got us today. We only turned the ball over once. Penalties didn't kill us repeatedly. We actually had a lead. I don't know if this is something that we'll be able to brag about or not ever talk about. I guess that we'll all be able to say after a particularly tough loss, "Hey, at least this wasn't as bad as the 2004 season."

What is the World Coming to??? Girls at strip clubs are pushy, but this one is out of control. LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - An angry San Diego topless dancer pulled out a knife and stabbed a customer after he refused a lap dance, police said on Thursday. Lawanda Dixon, 24, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon shortly after the altercation with 33-year-old Melik Jordan at the Dream Girls Cabaret early on Wednesday, San Diego police Det. Gary Hassen said. "He was in the club with some friends watching the shows when she came up and asked if he wanted a lap dance," Hassen said. "He said no, she got upset about it, they argued back and forth. She pulled knife out of her bag and stabbed him." Dixon was taken into custody and police found methamphetamine in a small metal container in Dixon's bag, Hassen said, adding that she may face drug charges. Officers also confiscated a small folding knife. Jordan was treated for his injuries and released by a local hospital.

This post is not intended to elicit your opinion, uninformed or otherwise, concerning Kayne West's rant during the NBC Katrina telethon. I just hadn't seen video of it until today and I thought it was hilarious. I don't agree with him, but that's beside the point. Take a look at Mike Myer's facial expressions after the 'pointed' comments from R&B's newest socio-political expert. It's like he's caught between objecting-thereby getting his ass beat and wanting to tell him, 'dude, I'm a cannuck. Can you leave me out of this and let me please make my next shitty sequel: So I Divorced an Axe Murderer and forgot the meaning of the word discriminate when looking at scripts.' http://media.putfile.com/Kanye79

We just received a huge shipment of beer at the casino for this weekend. It is hard to tell in this photo, but there are almost 900 boxes of beer. That is one beer for you and 10,799 of your closest friends. The majority of it is budlight and that is all the way in the back. You might ask, "If I wanted a budlight how would I get it?" I couldn't tell you. I asked the same question to the casino people and they looked confused and said, "good point". Seeing all that beer is getting me all excited....I'll be in Seattle this weekend if anyone wants to go out. I know Oliphant is in. Who else? In case anyone was interested to see the casino that my company built here is the website: www.innofthemountaingods.com.

It sure pisses me off. Why do people do this? I'm sure that there's an anthropology/psychology paper that's been done about mob mentality and how it arises, but do any of you think that this would happen in a city like Seattle or Portland if something similar happened? Additionally, I was wondering why on earth a city would be built below sea level and what would happen in the event of a natural disaster, which brought me to Wikipedia:Despite the dire warnings, no large-scale corrective measures had been implemented at the time of Katrina. Moreover, in June, government funds for the US Army Corps of Engineers in New Orleans district were cut by an unprecedented US$ 71.2 million; according to a Dolan Media newsreport of that time, "[t]he cuts mean major hurricane and flood protection projects will not be awarded to local engineering firms. Also, a study to determine ways to protect the region from a Category 5 hurricane has been shelved for now." (Katrina hit before the study would have been completed or implemented, but the reduction in funding is relevant nonetheless). Maybe I don't understand how these people live and how these people react to an unthinkable event, but I sure as hell don't understand how people can fire on hospital workers evacuating ICU patients.
