Sonics get #2

Tuesday, May 22, 2007 by Bobby

vs.

Well, many in Seattle are saying winning the #2 pick will be a savior to the franchise. Kevin Calabro, Angie Mentink, Lenny Wilkins, Mike Gas-Douche-neau, blah, bladdy, blah.

I think the #1 pick would have been better. Greg Oden will be the likely #1 pick and will be a franchise savior, just not for us. B "Cool" Roy (the nickname that I made up just now and is catching on already) will now have championships and all the rest of the NW--including Seattle-- will cheer him on because we'll have no team of our own.

FYI...RE: B"COOL"ROY.

Smokin, I believe you have a score to settle...

S: "If B-Roy wins the ROY, I will suck his dick!"

B: "I promise I will hold you to that. "

Paul Allen now has no reason to move his team to Seattle like stupid people think. Portland already has a state of the art building back in Allen's possession that he'll no long have trouble filling and a re-energized fan base, PLUS he'll own the Seattle TV and radio market too. Hell, maybe he'll hire Kevin Calabro do the broadcasts.

Crazy, no?

Look at what Allen has done to slowly turn Seattle towards him:

1. Hired Mr. Sonic, Nate McMillan.
2. Drafted Martell Webster.
3. Drafted B "Cool" Roy.
4. Will draft a dominant center Greg Oden.
5. Will win championships.

It's not that I don't think Durant will be as good, it's that we already have a player just like him with more experience in Rashard Lewis who the Sonics said they'll try to re-sign. It could be a good team, maybe even exciting team. However, if we can get Rashard back, I'd rather have Ray, Wilcox, some PG and Greg Oden. It would be the best balanced starting five inside our division.

If Oden goes to the Blazers, they'd be the best team in the division with WAY more upside and the Sonics will fail to get support and they'll leave to Vegas, Oklahoma City, KC, or some other bullshit city.

If Paul Allen has any love left in his small, cold, black heart, he'll realized he already has a good rookie center in Lamarcus Aldridge already and what he really needs is a scorer in Durant. The Sonics will get to draft Oden, finally have a balanced squad, get the support they need to stay and the road to the the Western Conference will be ripped from the Southwest and routed up to the Northwest for the next several years building a huge rivalry.

At least the good part of picking second is you will never be second guessed.

The Real Bobble Head

Friday, May 18, 2007 by Frodo

The Portland Beavers are hosting a contest for the next "Bob L Head". In February, the Beavers, known for an impressive list of creative promotions over the years, invited anyone legally named Bob L. Head to apply for this unique honor at www.portlandbeavers.com. Each registrant was asked to supply a list of basic information and a short essay on why he – more than any other Bob L. Head out there – is most fitting to receive this honor, one of the most coveted in sports-memorabilia circles. Of the 2000 Bob's that applied the field has been narrowed to three, and the winner will be chosen by the fans. So since Colby's last name isn't head vote for the second best real life Bobble Head.

Rants and Raves

Tuesday, May 15, 2007 by Bobby

I will talk about sports first because maybe at least Colby and Brian will comment.

I really like the Mariners right now. There are holes are there are several better teams in the AL. At the same time our weaknesses aren't deathblows and the better AL teams aren't that good.

Here is what I have picked up on the first month and a half and why I think we have a chance:

Yankees: Really good bats (I am not sold that they're great yet) and worse pitching than ours. Clemens comes back after some great stats in Houston, but Felix is back too and could cancel out Clemens. The Yankees are probably better, but we stand a chance.

Red Sox: Maybe the best in the AL, but maybe the worst Red Sox team in the past 5 years. The D stinks. Any right handed pull hitter can play tricks with Manny's mind. Coco Crisp is Jeremy Reed-ish. Big Pappi is a pedophile. Furthermore, even though he hasn't been bad yet, I still think Joel Pinero will lose the Red Sox at least 17 games this year. Definitely better than the M's, but not world beaters yet.

Tigers: Probably 2nd best AL team, but they can be rocked every once in a while. The Mariners rocked them for 18 runs in two games. They have Carlos Guillen, who I think trading him for ass cheese was the biggest mistake of the Gilleck era (or maybe it was Bavasi--if it was it wouldn't even rank in his top ten). Pudge is a winner, too.

Indians: Glad we didn't have to play them early, they're coming back to earth now.

White Sox: Good, but who the fuck cares.

Twins: Will be there in the end. Didn't spent a second caring about them until we play them.

Now to the AL West--

Rangers: Nope.

A's: Will always be there, but the loss of pitching and the injury proneness of the current staff will catch up to their weak bats. We'll win the season series with them this year.

Angels: Better offensively and pitching. But their great offense can go quiet and their pitching can be beat. Like us their is a great disparity between our good players our bad players. They have more good players, but they have a few real duds themselves.

Anyhow, like in the way I would be happy if the Huskies make it to at least the Sun Bowl next year, for the at the very least we can expect the Mariners to be around until past the All-star break. After all, the two worst teams after the All-star break made it to the World Series, just last year.

Griffey hit a game winning home run tonight in the 12th inning. 9th of the season, 9th in the last 18 games, 571st of his career. Now that the Hall of Fame has the final decision as to what logo you wear on your plaque, I think he still goes in as a Mariner--plus I don't think he'll disagree.

The NBA Playoffs are good. I like the Suns and I think the Spurs are a cheap, dirty team. I have always hated Robert Horry since he played on the Rockets after he knocked ol' timer and Sonics' assistant Bob Kloppenberg to the ground on purpose when he was pushed out of bounds. That said, rules are rules and you can't come off the bench. The Spurs can suck my balls for instigating the bullshit of it all, though.

Jazz win the series v. the Warriors: Jazz pay off the refs. After a decade and a half of hating them, I am convinced.

It's good to blog again.

Smokestack (NYC): How are the Mariners winning? It seems the ones they win, they just barely pull out and the ones that they lose are over after the second inning.

SportsNation Rob Neyer: (12:20 PM ET ) What's got to really hurt, if you're an M's fan, is how well they'd be doing if Bavasi hadn't spent all that money on Miguel Batista and Jeff Weaver.

my thoughts exactly (although not in those eloquent, non-profane words)

SuperCuts Card

Thursday, May 03, 2007 by Stumpy

So I got my hair cut at SuperCuts and they gave me this card that they stamp every time you get your hair cut there. When I looked at the back of the card I was surprised to see Black's male modeling career has taken off so well. Look for him as the next Centerfold of "Investment Banking Monthly". I think that only Black and Dave subscribe to that one though.
